Hidden Hawker Gems - Blanco Court Traditional Hainan Beef Noodles

Instead of perpetually showcasing fine dining food, this is gonna be the start of a new series to showcase hidden hawker gems.

The idea behind this is that we are far too familiar with the STB favoured hawkers for too long. In addition, blogs and other publications tend to only write about the ones that are already having too much attention, or hawkers that have become media savvy.

Thus, a need to highlight hawkers that are either been around for ages but without the appropriate publicity. Or hawkers that are simply unknown but yet have a certainly local following.

For our very first feature, it is none other than Blanco Court Traditional Hainan Beef Noodles.

Truth be told, very little is known about the owners or the history. But according to their Facebook page, they have been around since 1979. As with such pedigree, they have a "secret" recipe and that is the key in the broth base which also doubles up as the thick gooey sauce for the dry variant.

What I have been told is that the soup base is cooked with beef marrow, and that accounts for that rich and robust beef taste in the soup and sauce. It is really that good.

The beef slices themselves are cooked slightly well done, which is a bit more than I would have liked, but still, it's head and shoulders above most standard beef noodle places.

So that's it, a very tasty bowl of Hainan beef noodles that for my money, beats the rest of the more well known beef noodle places out there. The place is air conditioned, and has a modern look to it, so you will be comfortable dining here. And it is no longer at Blanco Court. It currently resides near the old Singapore Badminton Hall at Guillemard Road.
